Have you felt that little nudging inside that swears there is more to your life? I don’t just mean more that you should be doing or that you figured you’d be further ahead by now in which ever way you define your personal success. I’m talking about that real sense of purpose or awareness that exists within you when life is still.
When your mind is quiet; there’s a presence as certain as your heartbeat, your soul. It’s waiting for you to find your stillness and see the beauty it has to offer. It’s ready whenever you are, all you need to do is acknowledge its existence and create an opportunity to get to know it – again.
If you don’t have a relationship with your soul now, you certainly did as a child. There was a time when you paid attention to that inner voice more, that knowing. We’re all born with the instinct to do it. You were once fearless, full of light and certainty. Free to express your truest self, behave in your most natural way and pursue your genuine talents.
There’s a small window in your early life when parents actually allow you to be your true self. They silently observe your personality, developmental milestones and assess the path they will guide you. I’m not talking about teaching basic skills or manners but deciding what activities you will participate in, who you associate with and how to behave in socially acceptable ways.
In so many ways, children are raised to go against their natural and innocent behaviors. Most parents would never dream to buy boys dolls or girls hot wheels, lets be honest. I’m willing to call bullshit on the parents who say they are going to allow their children choose their own preferences without first considering how they would be judged.
It’s like we’ve been told all along that our true self is wrong in some way, unacceptable and we must adapt to our environment to prosper. If we’ve been conditioned for the better part of our lives to not trust ourselves or our instincts, where does that leave us? Doubtful and unsure.
Do you know how many adults that I’ve met who are doubtful and unsure?

Imagine how many children would blossom with a lifetime of fulfillment as adults if they were able to choose their own paths. How many would have easily found their calling had they been freely exposed to their interests without being judged or guided towards what they “should do”. For example, so many parents have already decided that their boy is going to play hockey before they even know if he wants to at all.
Parents mean well, we all want our child to walk the path of least resistance and avoid suffering at all costs. Along with ensuring they pursue a career that will guarantee financial security versus letting them genuinely pursue their dreams.
Gradually, your inner voice becomes silenced by the barrage of grooming and social expectations that consume us all. Suddenly years have flown by, milestones have been met and you’re not even sure how you got to where you are or became the person you came to be.
“If you think there is something missing from your life, it’s probably you.” – Robert Holden
A small few were lucky, they were thrust onto the path that their soul planned for all along. You know, those people who are actually following their heart, pursuing a career that gives them purpose and really achieving soulful satisfaction. But I’m going to say with certainty that most have felt they were cast into a role they didn’t necessarily audition for.
We aren’t all going to grow up and save the planet or receive a Nobel Peace Prize. Last time I checked; we weren’t living with the purpose of getting a gold star in mind anyway. However, we do all have an equal journey of individual growth and the key to unlocking our soul’s call for a meaningful life.
We live in a world that is designed to distract us, overwork us, claim our attention and make us forget we have this undeniable purpose. We move along day in and day out, fulfilling our responsibilities with a false pretense that we don’t have the right to expect anything more.
It doesn’t matter which part of your journey you find yourself. You are able to reconnect to your inner child, your passions and your awareness. You need to decide it matters to you. If you can take that step alone, take time to find your stillness.
Let the distractions of your human life melt away as you watch your soul illuminate from within. If you can quiet your mind, even for a few moments, the certainty you once knew will begin to arise and you will become reintroduced to your knowing.
Join me, on a journey of self reflection, compassion and humility. In a world where we are so divided and hostile towards each other, why would any of us really accept that this is it.
